Privacy Policy

What we collect

• Your account: your email address and, if you give it, your name.
• Your child's story details:the first name, age, pronouns and appearance you describe, plus pet, story choices and dedication. We don't ask for photos, surnames or dates of birth, and you should only enter what you're happy to see in the book.
• Orders: what you bought and, for printed books, the delivery name and address. Card payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card number.
• Technical data: your IP address (used to prevent abuse of free previews) and basic, cookieless usage statistics.

How we use it, and why

• To make and deliver your book, including your free preview (performance of our contract with you).
• To send service emails such as “your preview is ready”, receipts, delivery updates and up to two reminders about an unfinished book (our legitimate interests; every reminder has an unsubscribe link).
• To prevent fraud and abuse and keep the service secure (legitimate interests).
• To measure our advertising, only if you accept marketing cookies (consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
• To keep financial records as the law requires (legal obligation).

Your child's information

Story details are entered by a parent, guardian or gift-giver and used only to create the book. We don't sell them, use them for advertising, or use them to train AI models. Our AI provider processes them to generate the text and pictures on our behalf.

Who we share it with

We use trusted providers who process data for us under contract:

• Google (Gemini API): writing the story and creating illustrations
• Supabase: database, accounts and file storage
• Vercel: website hosting and cookieless analytics
• Inngest: running the book-making process
• Stripe: payments
• Resend: sending emails
• Our printing and delivery partners: printed orders only
• Meta: advertising measurement, only with your consent

Some of these providers store data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, we rely on UK-approved safeguards such as the UK–US data bridge or the International Data Transfer Agreement.

If we sell or transfer the MagicMunchkins business, your information may pass to the new owner so they can keep providing your books, and they must use it in line with this policy.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and books while your account is open, so you can download them again. Ask us to delete them at any time and we will, except for order and payment records, which we must keep for six years for tax purposes.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent. Email hello@magicmunchkins.com. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Cookies

• Essential: sign-in cookies (names beginning sb-) that keep you logged in, and mm_consent, which remembers your cookie choice.
• Marketing (only if you accept): the Meta Pixel (e.g. _fbp), used to measure whether our adverts lead to orders.

Our usage statistics (Vercel Analytics) don't use cookies. You can change your choice at any time using “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
